Tapestry's Hannah Needle appointed FGE

I am delighted to let you know that Hannah Needle, a Legal Director at Tapestry and head of our Leeds office, has been appointed as one of the inaugural Fellows of Global Equity (FGE) by the Global Equity Organization (GEO).

This prestigious fellowship was established by GEO, a major organisation in the global incentives industry, to recognise distinguished senior-level members of the global equity and executive remuneration industry. Recipients were chosen for their leadership, integrity, high level of experience, knowledge and ability, and for their positive impact on the global share ownership community. The inaugural class constitutes 22 new Fellows, representing 8 different countries, with Hannah being one of only 3 from the UK. Other leaders in our industry recognised with Fellowship included Carine Schneider, founder of GEO, Adie Leung and Yael Elbaz Roiter.

In announcing the recipients of the Fellowship, the Chair of GEO commented that they represent “some of the foremost leaders in equity and executive compensation across the world. Each recipient is outstanding in their field and a passionate ambassador for share ownership." I think that is an excellent description of Hannah!

The launch of the GEO Fellows was done in time to mark and celebrate the 20th anniversary of founding GEO. More information about becoming a Fellow can be found at www.globalequity.org.

Hannah has been with Tapestry since 2016. Her expertise includes all forms of global executive and employee share plans, covering complex tax and trust issues as well as corporate and governance arrangements impacting share plans.  Hannah’s enthusiasm for the work we do means that she takes time out of her busy work and family life to support numerous industry groups at both the global and UK level, sitting on committees to develop best practice and influence the rules, regulations and guidance governing share plans. She regularly speaks at conferences and, crucially, is involved with mentoring a new generation of share plan lawyers. I am delighted she is in our Team at Tapestry!

Hannah's new status has already seen her, along with the other inaugural Fellows, open the Amsterdam Euronext Stock Exchange on the first day of the recent GEO conference. And some of Hannah's eagle-eyed clients will have noticed that her sign-off now includes the letters 'FGE' after her name, as a public recognition of her new fellowship status.

I am sure that all our clients and friends will want to join with us in congratulating Hannah on this fantastic and richly deserved honour. Well done Hannah!

Tapestry's Steve Penfold - Flying High!

I know many of you will have worked with Steve Penfold in our team as one of our tax experts. Steve has been competing in the British National Hang Gliding Championships, which were held in Ager (a small Spanish town about 100 miles northwest of Barcelona). This is the main event of the UK hand gliding calendar and will decide the British champion. We are pleased to hear he did really well and came 5th - his best result yet! Hopefully, he will be selected to the British Team to compete in the European Championships next year.

Steve learned to fly whilst he was in the British Army, in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), and he soon progressed to flying competitively. Steve loves flying and continues to compete - over the years he has competed throughout Europe (including Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy and Portugal).

The British National Hang Gliding Championships is always held outside of the UK, as the weather and flying conditions on the continent are usually better. That said, Steve has flown in some memorable UK competitions when the weather was just right – flying 100 miles from Shropshire to Aylesbury, or from mid-Wales over the top of the big Welsh mountains to land on the coast at Rhyl, for example.

A hang gliding competition involves flying a course, which is usually between 70 and 200 km long (depending on the conditions), to get to a particular goal. Points are awarded for the proportion of the course completed, and those who get all the way to goal will get additional points for speed. If the weather permits, one task is flown each day, with up to 1,000 points available per task, and the pilot with the most points becomes the British Champion. This year's British Nationals were flown over 7 days.

A very big thank you to all our clients, friends and colleagues. It’s been 7 years since we established Tapestry and we’ve had an amazing journey and a lot of fun - thank you for all your support.

It’s the time of year for the publication of the 2 legal directories, Legal 500 and Chambers, as well as being Awards season.

Legal Directories

The two UK legal directories have both recently named Tapestry as a top ranked firm in the field! With over 50 major global appointments in the last year, we are proud of the practical yet commercial approach we offer our clients. However, you don’t just have to take our word for it:

Our Legal Director, Hannah Needle, has been ranked by both directories as a notable practitioner with Chambers ranking her as a Star Associate, noting her to be "smart, insightful, creative, measured and reasonable".
